Banjarnegara Landslide Disaster
"Last week, on Friday, December 12, 2014, around 5:30 p.m. Western Indonesian time, a deadly
landslide struck off the mountainous area of Banjarnegara District in Central Java, Indonesia.
Heavy rains in recent days triggered a rush of mud, rocks and trees that wiped out over 100 houses
in and near Sampang Village and displaced more than 500 people. The disaster management
agency reported at least 39 people dead, 69 missing, and 15 people injured, 11 of which are in
serious condition. Actual figures are likely to grow higher."
Damage wreaked by the destruction, as well as inclement weather, have seriously hampered rescue
and relief efforts.
As we learned from the Oso mudslide here in Washington State in March, these landslides require
a lot of funds and manpower to start rebuilding, and take an extremely long time to recover from.
We at CERDAS Foundation and Indonesia Diaspora Foundation (IDF) are mobilizing efforts to
provide support and relief to those impacted by the disasters and collecting funds for distribution to
those in need. CERDAS & IDF are collaborating with local Non-Government Organizations
(NGOs) with access to the affected areas to bring timely and effective relief to the victims.
We are accepting donations until Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Please send your contribution
